Impasto

Este término tiene dos significados. Es pigmento como óleo o acrílico aplicado en capas gruesas, que a menudo presenta pinceladas visibles (Auerbach, Kooning y Yeats) o las señales de espátula (Riopelle). Designa también la técnica de aplicación, que el artista ha usado para evocar emoción, crear dramatismo a través de la textura o resaltar su lucha con la pintura.
